Well the time is finally near. I have been waiting 5 months for baby Jetta to come home. She is coming from Bendigo victoria and is being handreared and weened at the moment. She is down to one feed a day now which is great. My breeder emailed me some pics of Jetta. She is a definate girl and was dnad two weeks ago. Jetta - My girl My favourite Pic Very playful apparently Just checking everyone out I pick her up from brissy airport friday three weeks as she is being flown up. Her freight cage is already to go.

Congratulations on your new addition Judy, exciting hey!, what sub species is your baby?. Be prepared for the consistant "baby squeeking", it will go on for such long time, you will get to be thinking it may never stop but it does in time. Cheers, Bill.

Thanks bill, lol Im glad theres another person on here who breeds them, be good to chat too. Jetta is a smaller sub-species of the normal blacks, she is a samulai. So she will be a little smaller than them.
Im still concerned on her age. She is still being weened at the moment, and I told my breeder I dont want her flown up till she is on a full strong solid diet. She will be 6 months in 4 weeks. She is on two feeds a day still, so can u tell me if she is travelling well with that? Still unsure.
Thanks for posting on here, was hoping you would lol.

lol btw, about the noise level, well I have a major mitchell and galah who make a racket and a half, so noise factor doesnt concern me as much and I only have one neighbour and there into birds as well, so thats a plus.

Hlo Judy, When i mentioned baby noise, its not loud , only low consistent, and WOW! nothing like a Galah and the Majors. You give your young one at 105days old, ...at around day 115 i have mine on only 1 small eve feed as a top up and then would be eating seed ok. Also will have been nibbling on diff types of veges, and certainly would have been weaned by 180days (6Mths) She would have been throwing food back up (so they dont get to heavy)ready for flying by 70 days old. Wt would be around 580Gms at around 70days (flying) and when they settle down to their adult size the weight stabilises. Hope that helps, Bill.

thanks bill. Is it alright to clip there wings this young, before they learn how to fly? I havent got cookie clipped as she is such a beautiful bird and the wingspan is magnificent. She has her own route around the house which is good so she doesnt fly into doors and so forth. But with Jetta I want to be able to take her out for drives and trips so I want her to be safe as possible.

Hlo Judy, this up to you, at the age at present she would surely have been flying if she was allowed, as they all fly at 70days old. If they have not been allowed to fly they will never develop wing muscles for the strength, so be careful she does not fall from your shoulder. If a bird that had a wing clipped all its life ever went to a larger aviary they would never fly on regrowing its wing,....only climb. Remember they will outlive you. I personally have never ever cut any birds wing, but i understand your reasons for wanting to. Cheers, Bill.

hey Judy, I might be getting a male samuli next year. I spoke to the breeder of Shrekie and Skye yesterday about getting males for Shrekie and Skye (he had no spares) and about possibly getting a male. He showed me two female's he now has in an aviary that he handraised. One is a samuli and the other a magnificus?? There didn't seem to be much difference in size, but the samuli was a bit smaller. The females are lovely looking too as they keep their spots. These birds love Graeme too. He is in a wheelchair (so is his wife) and he put his finger in the cage and the birds came over and tried to step up and just nibbled his finger. They are lovely birds. Oh and Judy.........I am finally getting aviaries........hubby is finally building them. ;D

thats great news tracey. pity we are so far apart, we could breed them lol. Thats great about the avairies as well. Thats also good to hear that they both get along with the breeders as well. I have heard the males are alot better temperament than the females, but I guess it all depends on how much time you spend with the birds when weaning them.
Thats a long time with the black toos bill, so if I run into trouble with questions I know where to come lol.
