yes sometimes the females can be downright bitchy towards the males. My pair get along extremely well. There is little fighting between them. I did not put them together immediately either. My female though can be downright aggressive to me at times and has attacked me savagely on 4 occassions. My hen (Skye) was around 3 years old when I got the male (Gunny) and I wanted a male at least 3 years old and a not an ex pet. I wanted the male old enough to be able to defend himself in case Skye was aggressive to him......but she isn't. Gunny though does pluck the chicks......

I was attacked by my eclectus hen yesterday. They do bite hard! A Gang gang bite beats it though. It was my fault, I was giving her a biscuit and pushed my luck and pat her belly. Her eyes dialated and that was it! munch.

OK now iam worried about the age difference ,and wether this bird might have been a hand raised gone bad , as when i approach him in the Avery he does not get startled and i can get close and even pat him he does not like it but that is why iam worried he might have been a pet. j

Not being a pet was "my choice" that doesn't mean he wont be a good breeder. That is just what I was looking for in a mate for my girl. As for ekkie bites........Shaun come and visit me and step inside Skye's aviary.....actually she probably wont bite you as she seems to like my husband now....it is only me.......and when I say attack......I mean attack not bite. She full on lunges, screams, bites and flaps at me and most times now she doesn't even give a sign.......she just does it. I have heard that the females can actually be unpredicatable like this and not always show signs of being 'anti social" or "in a bad mood". Stephen was actually very shocked at the bruises and chunks of skin taken out of my side and arms the last time she attacked me (just before Erik hatched)......yes she had a reason this time......I just didn't realise it until Erik hatched ;D because until that day she had been perfectly fine with me in the aviary (she had attacked me before though but the two first times were as a house pet.....hence the aviary was built). Madaussie, Gunny is apparently was handraise but never a pet. He is quite a nice bird and has never shown any aggression to either me or my husband. We both think he is just lovely. He flies to my husband (not me as I don't encourage it ....... Skye has made me warey now) and he takes food out of our hands.....yes I do feed him from my hand, I just don't encourage him to fly to me.

My hen hates my wife also Tracey. Shw fluffs up at her when my wife is in the walkway and tries to bite as she feeds them.

Love the pictures of the birds

It can be perfectly normal for birds to choose one person over another......especially hens prefering male humans too and vise versa.
Shaun the fact that your hen dislikes your wife seems to put a bit more credance to "can birds tell the difference in sex in humans". someone started a topic by that name (or something similar) in the polls section.......I believe they can.......

I believe they can also Tracey as over the years I have seen evidence of it with different birds prefering a certain sex.

yes me too Shaun especially with my female galah....it was as obvious as ....... well I wont say what ;D ;D
But that doesn't mean all female birds prefer male humans or vise versa.......they still quite often just pick a fav person.......but then not always sometimes they just like people in general. lol Kind of like us humans hey.........unpredictable. lol ;D
