I have an awful lot of trouble with the tiels going off their babies, mostly the older hens. This season I will be keeping a very close eye on the babies.

We have baby marmosets. Ostrich, moustache, bleeding heart pigeons, yellow crowned amazons, common bronzewing all on eggs. Blue and Golds and Blue fronted amazons working the box and Tawny frogmouth starting to prepare a nest. Also a Camel due in the coming months and a Rhesus Macaque about to pop! Phew.............I am out of breath just reading all that. What a beautiful time of year it is. ;D

Do you have any babies yet Ellen? Yes Laraine, I have a constant supply of peachies happening, they don't wait for breeding season. I have (at last count) six ringneck babes. I haven't checked anyones nests since I got home yesterday, it is fairly cool here and the wind hasn't stopped howling. I don't want to upset anyone. Before we left, there were two other pairs of ringnecks on eggs, moustache on eggs, plumheads on eggs, crimson rosellas on eggs, quakers on eggs. princess on eggs, western rosellas on eggs and we haven't even checked on the finches. We are just leaving them to their own devices after our loss with that critter. We are just letting them build up the colonies again. When it warms up again, I will check them all. Hope your 'tiels do the right thing for you this time Laraine. My brother gave me a mate for my Jacky (a male cockatiel who really doesn't know he is a bird) and he wasn't interested in her, so I have given her to a friend of mine who needed a hen. Jacky is just happy being with Curley (a male Galah). They do everything together.

Yes Lewis, they won't stop unless I take the nests from them - which is about to happen after this lot of babes. I have given so many peachies away, because no one wants to buy them. Thanks Laraine, I am a little concerned as to...........if they do hatch, we are going to have to do some serious re-arranging. Mick wants to concentrate on his finches, so that is what the new aviary is being built for. Yes I still have my scarlets, turqs, bourkes and elegants. They are on eggs also, they are in the big flight - where the finches can come and go freely, so I tend not to disturb them. AND.............it is still so cold here, I thought we were over the cold crappy weather. Today is supposed to be a better day - let's hope so.

So far 4 little yellow balls of fluff (tiels). Another tiel is sitting on eggs, but so far no one else. Two of the Red Rump females had eggs but they have disappeared. No budgies on eggs at the moment. I had a nasty mishap with my female sitting on one egg. The perch collapsed, while I was out on Saturday afternoon, and brought her box down with it. When I arrived home she had her head under the box. There must have been a little space as she survived. She was very ordinary for a few days, and I brought her inside and covered the cage etc. She is now back to her old self so will put her back in the aviary on Saturday. Talk about lucky.

So far this year we have had : 4 x black cockatoo babies (2 artificially and 2 naturally incubated) 2 x Galah babies 8 x Princess babies 4 x Major Mitchell babies 2 x Corella Babies 3 x Lorikeet babies 7 x Cockateil babies 5 x Lovebird babies 1 x Gang Gang baby 1 x Red rump baby 2 x Alexandrine babies We have bred everything ourselves except for the Teils, Alexandrines and gang gangs who came from one of our breeders for handrearing due to one reason or another. Most birds started very early and want to go down again, still wondering if we should let them as we havent got much demand for anything other than handraised galahs as we were able to supply everyone on our waiting list with their babies. We had lots of healthy happy bubs, most were handraised, some are still being handraised! My partner is taking care of the majority of the raising this season as i work ridiculous hours, although i do take over when im able to so he can rest Sounds like everyones having a great season so far!!

The small birds were dumped on our property in filthy travel style cages. obviously someone no longer wanted the birds and could hear our birds so took the liberty of dumping them here. was a right pain in the arse as we have vey strict quarantine here.

Oh Megzly at last my single cockatoo hen has stopped "making eyes" at me, and shredding every little bit of paper she can find, I also think my sock draw can get back to normal and not get disrupted by the phantom "nest builder"! Thank goodness breeding season seems to be over for the year in our house.
