Well Lewis I actually like both my alex's and ekkies. They are totally different types of birds though. I find my ekkies are a little more maintenance than my alex's.........but at the moment I need to make sure both have plenty of food to feed the chicks I have left in the nest box's.
I find my alex's even though they are in the aviary now are still tame and allow interaction with me and their chicks (well shrekie is the only one with chicks this year). I have found both male and female talk and make equally nice pets.
I myself have found so far that the male ekkies appear to be more placid in personality than the my hen.......but I have heard of some nice hens. My hen was the best bird I had ever owned though until the hormones kicked in. Whereas her husband is very calm and has never bitten us. Their first chick is Erik (in my avatar) and I handraised him and kept him and he is a lovely natured bird so far....waiting for hormones to kick in and see what he does. Hopefully he wont change too much.
Both alex's and ekkies are not a scratchy feely bird ......... unlike cockatoos who love to loved 24/7 and can be quite demanding. My birds though are used to spending time in their cages and they don't seem to mind as long as they get some "mummy" time with me. My alex's and ekkies seem to be quite content to sit n my shoulder or on my hand/arm and just "be" with me.

Thanks Shaun, tried to have a look yesterday but she is sitting so tight i didn't have a hope in hell just was able to hear the little chirps.
GC Conures bubs are growing like mad will pull them soon. And that's it for me but i am loving not having so many babies to hand rear. All up i have inside 3 eckie hens, 1 male at the tail end of weaning & 2 sunnie chicks.
Its great to see so many of you having success with your breeding this season.

So far 4 baby tiels in one box and 1 in the other. I'm a bit worried about the 4th baby, it is considerably smaller than the others. I am thinking of putting it in with the one baby. What does everyone think?
One budgie sitting on eggs but nothing else unfortunately.

Well a bit of a set back with the crimson bellies had 2 chicks hatch & both died. 1 fertile egg left so have it in the incubator. Hope it hatches OK. Maybe they will go back to nest & lay again.
I have a feeling she didn't appreciate me having a sticky. Oh next time i will keep my nose out of the box. Heheh.

Laraine did you put the bub in with another chick?? If so how did it go. I probably would have tried that if I didn't have time to handraise ...... but I would have done it at night. I did that with day old chicks with a clucky hen and she took to them like they were her own. We just took her infertile eggs out when we put the chicks in about 9pm and when she woke up she thought she had hatched babies. lol

I did take it out but the next morning it was dead. However the other 3 are getting quite big, plus 2 little fluff balls in the other. Also my pearl tiel sitting on 4 eggs. Also the Eastern Rosella is sitting on 2. How are all your babies going Tracey? Are GCC hard to breed, my two dont seem to be doing anything except sleeping in their box?

That is a real shame robyn Hopefully they go down again for you. It is still early so fingers crossed. Are you planning on handraising the young or letting the parents do it if all goes well? Laraine, I have never had GCC, but they are not hard to breed. There are so many of them available which means something is going right for them here in Australia. I have conures that I am still waiting to breed also. My suns and nandays need a hurry up I am getting impatient Shaun

Laraine, Shrekie and Alex are raising theirs......so they will not be tame when they fledge....I guess I will try to tame some "ferals" lol before selling them.
I took the third bub out of Skye's nest box this arvo. I wanted to take him last week as he looked like he wasnt getting enough food. Today I looked and he is so much smaller and he feels so much lighter in body.....plus he is being plucked too (still) so he is now inside. So I am now raising all 3 ekkie chicks. The older two are doing really well and have a home to go to already.....the third one also has a home (they were all spoken for for about 2 weeks) so that was another reason why I took him out but not a major reason. Skye and Gunny have raised these ones for almost 8 weeks if you count from when the first one hatched so I am happy enough with the way they raised so far this time.

What I meant by Skye and Gunny raising is total time ....... I took the older two at about 4 weeks of age, this one is almost 7 weeks old and the older one is almost eight weeks old. So total time of raising is almost eight weeks ...... does that make sense???

Me too, with some of these birds you have such a small window of opportunity. Next week I am putting the new Superbs into their own cage with breeding box. They have bred for the previous owner so will see. One pair of Princess Parrots have their own breeding box too but nothing so far. I have also separated a pair of Turks and a pair of Scarlett Chested so hopefully..........
