Thought I'd start a new thread for this year's breeding season as some of your birds seem to be starting early. I put breeding boxes in with my Red Rumps as they were squabbling, seems to be a bit of interest already.

John is that eclectus supposed to be 3 weeks old in that picture??? I would have thought much younger than that ....... maybe 10 days old in that picture?? My chicks at 3 weeks are black fluff balls (apart from Erik who was plucked naked) and their eyes are open. Their eyes start to open around 10 days or so.

why did you pull it so young John?? Not critising just curious that is all. I leave mine in the nest until around 4 weeks. I have found that seems to be a good age to pull them. I have pulled a couple at 6 and 7 weeks and they still made lovely pets (I was trying to leave one for them to raise to fledging but they seem to stop feeding them at 6 or 7 weeks). The youngest I pulled was 14 days because Gunny had started to pluck him too.
I have one in the nest now and he is one week old today (well he or she) so I will pull it in about 3 weeks time.

I had fun today moving my birds around and putting breeding boxes in with the ones I want to breed. I'm separating the breeding pairs from the others. Hope it works.......
