Congratulations JJ, i also have 1 baby eclectus & the other egg is pipping should hatch tonight, checked the GCC'S & there was a chick hatched & about 5 more eggs i think. But apart from that not to much going on. I dread putting the nest box in for the trio of eckies as sales for birds up here is non existent.

I only put the main boxes in on Sunday so nothing is happening with the Princesses, GCC and Superbs. One budgie is sitting on a lot of eggs, when I tried to have a look she bit my finger LOL. Hoping she will be a good mother, I'm getting lots of enquiries about baby budgies.

My English budgie hen is sitting on 2 eggs. She had 2 good clutches last year so am keeping fingers crossed. Today I moved the 2 pesky peachies so they don't upset the red rumps breeding again this year. Also sexed them, they are a pair, don't know why their eggs are always clear.

My Plumhead Hen has been in and out of the box for about a week now. I can hear her chewing inside the box, I think she chews the softwood rungs that lead down to the bottom of the nesting box. The male hangs around the entrance most of the time. I have seen him feed her a couple of times. Last year her 4 eggs did not hatch. I think she was too young. I have my fingers croosed for this year. She is 3 this year and he is 4. Comments appreciated..

Sounds promising. You could put some untreated soft wood in her box for her to chew.
All you can do is let nature take it's course & hope you get some chicks this time round.
Good Luck

Forgot 4 baby Green Cheeks, 1 egg to hatch & 1 infertile.
6 fertile chicken eggs in the incubator due to hatch in 2 weeks. Since having so much trouble with the Red Tail Too eggs I decided to use some chicken eggs to make sure my settings are correct.
Only about 1 week or so to go before we know if the Emu egg is going to hatch or not.

Did you say Emu egg Robyn, have I missed something........will you have to handraise it?
My hens just love chewing the breeding boxes, I guess they get bored sitting in there, all my boxes have holes at the back. lol. Thinking of changing to metal boxes, does anyone use them?

They should be old enough to breed at 3 and 4. I've got a pair of Plumheads, but the female is just a year old, so will wait until next year before breeding them. Good luck with yours Noddy, what type of box do you use?

Laraine It is a Z shaped box. I got the pattern from Sypher of this forum and the hen seems to love it.

Good to hear about the plumheads! My hen died on a clutch last year with the dust storm, but my new hen seems to be filling the space well. They are mating now and in the box

Yeah I hope Molly waits a bit longer. Last year she laid the first egg on Aug 18 and then we a had a few very cold nights just like we are currently going through at the moment on the south coast. I also have a pair of blue masked lovebirds. They have prepared a nest in a log nest box I bought at the local bird show. They appear to be a pair but have not yet produced young. I had a DNA tested pair but the hen escaped. I will just have to wait and see. They roost in the log each night. Exiting times at the moment.

One of the budgies has hatched 3 babies. They are forecasting some very cold nights this week so I hope she keeps them warm.

Disappointed this morning to find all the babies dead. Bird breeding can be disappointing.
