I have started to go through my photos (there are many thousands of them going back to 1960) and as I come across some cute bird photos I thought I would put them up here for everyone to enjoy, and we all enjoy photos don't we SO the first two are of babies taken in 2001. We used to raise a lot of babies, of a wide variety of species - over 30 at last count. As the babies were fed (when they were beyond the brooder stage) we would let them socialise on the table and mix with the other species. These two photos give you an idea The first shows 6 different species all cuddling up together - Rainbow, Sun Conure, Cockatiel, Alexandrine, Pale Head Rosella, and blue Quaker. One of the things they often liked to do was squeeze as many as possible into an ice cream contained on its side. In this photo we have Alexes, Rainbow, blue Quakers, and Pale Heads all squeezing in together into a 2 litre container. More photos will follow as I come across them cheers, Mike

Those babies are so precious. How funny, that they tried to all squeeze in that ice cream container.
Keep those pics you promised coming. You were right, we all love pictures. At least, I know I do.

Wish I could work out how to attach photo's!! I have some awesome ones too.....is it really that hard??? lol....I'm sure there is a thread on here somewhere? on how to do it There are two ways. I use ImageShack - imageshack.us/ - to host any photos I want to put here on the Forum. Once you have uploaded photos to Imageshack you can then copy the forum link for your photo and paste it into your message. There are other photo hosting sites that do the same job. The other method is when writing your message, click on the browse button to the left of the message window, and go to highlight your photo, then click on the host it button. The benefit of ImageShack is that the photo appears full size in your message, where you want it to appear withing the text, so it is easy to format a message as you want. That is what I did with the Eternal Quadrangle photos so the photos appeared within the text. If you use the Browse function then the photos appear as thumbnails at the bottom of your message and the reader has to click on the photo, and be logged in, to see the full size photo. And a final suggestion, always preview your message before sending it off to the Forum - avoids those embarrassing mistakes where the wrong photo was linked to !! cheers, Mike

But don't forget when you preview you have to re-attach the photo

Flossy, I use www.photobucket.com Just copy & paste the code link & paste that into your message. It will appear in the message exactly where you paste, so like Mike said, the picture will be in the right place in your text to make the most sense. Simple as pie!

But don't forget when you preview you have to re-attach the photo If you use imageshack or photobucket I don't think you have to reattach after preview. At least I haven't had to. Are you meaning when a pic is posted as a direct upload to the forum?

Hi Flossy
Go to Profiles
Scroll down to "View Profile: Flossy" Which is just above your avatar.
Look to the right. You will see: "AussieBirds Forum Member's Bio - Modify Profile - Bookmarks - Social Networks"
Click on "Modify Profile"
A new page opens
Scroll down to where you see your avatar picture & just a little below that you will see
"Signature" and a box. Copy and past the code from your album source eg imageshack or photobucket into the box.
Note the picture size limitation info on the right. I've added some text to my siggy as well, but that's optional.
When you've got your siggy how you want it then:-
scroll to the bottom of the page Select "Modify Profile"

I've been trying to send a picture using the browse function but it isn't working for me - so I will continue to use ImageShack as I have always done. Just a note about the code to use from ImageShack. When you click on the "i" button for the picture you want to use, copy the links in the Forums section. Anyway on to a photos - these are of the Bells, or more exactly, Big Belle and Baby Belle, both lutino "Alexandrines". They are my daughter's birds and she has always had problems with names! She decided to call the first one Bella, and then the second lutino turned up in the next clutch, she decided it was too hard and Bella became Big Belle, and the younger one (who is actually larger) was Baby Belle. Most will know that all the colour mutations of Alexandrines available in Australia have come from crossing with Ringnecks to get the colour. That means that strictly speaking all colour mutations of Alexandrines are hybrids, and some of them are pretty weedy looking birds as a result. So the Belles are hybrids - their mother is a large pure greem female Alexandrine and their father is a 50% ringneck, split lution, although he is an Alexandrine size. Alex (that problem with names again!) was the result of a pairing of the biggest male Alex I have ever seen, and a lutino ringneck girl - how they ever mated I don't know. The breeder didn't understand sex-linked breeding, and 18 years ago neither did I, so we were given Alex as a baby when he turned out green to HR for the pet market. Somehow he ended up staying. All that means the Belles are 75% ALex and 25% Ringneck, but their size is a pretty normal Alexandrine. Both are about 10 years old, purely pets, and have never bred. We also have 4 of their brothers, who are full size, and one sister who is smaller, close to ringneck in size. Big Belle is one of my favourites, not only is the a beautiful girl, bu she is that rarity amongst Alexandrines - she loves to get cuddles! cheers, Mike Big BelleBaby Belle

Some more cute baby photos - I've got hundreds more to go!!!! First up a couple of Sun Conures cuddling up to an Alex baby. Looks like the Sun is trying to preen some of the dried hand rearing mix around the beak. Suns always want to be friends with all the other babies, and our Alex babies were always very good natured around the other babies. Second photo is feeding time for a mixed flock of Ringneck and Alex babies. Basically once they reached this stage and were in cages we would open the door and they would form a semicircle around the feeder and wait their turn for food. It meant they didn't eat too quickly, they would tend to wander off for a while then come back for more, and resulted in well socialised babies that knew they were birds. The only species it didn't work with was cockatiels - they would be frantic to food until they were stuffed full so usually they got fed last after the others had had their fill and wandered away. Final photo is a crush of Lorikeets in an Ice cream container - Rainbows and Scalies (both normal and a grey-green.) cheers, Mike
